The Orb of Xiath is a performance and recording project featuring by Ani Samperi and Paußnitz (Uwe Lüdicke) in a ritualistic musical interaction with an enormous spherical instrument used to create otherworldly (i.e. interplanetary, "round") sounds. This instrument doubles as an experimental vocal booth, utilizing the resonant frequencies and overtones of a perfectly-spherical steel chamber to summon as yet unknown sonic entities into our earthly dimension.
As part of the performance, a select few audience entrance tickets will have been randomly inscribed with their own special sigil, whereby each audience member whose ticket bears one of these sigils will be asked to volunteer a brief vocal “offering” to the Orb upon display of their sigil. Wishes, oms and pure guttural screams from these willing participants will be transformed via several cycles of recording and replaying into the Orb’s hollow cavern until mysterious sounds appear. Those with which She is most pleased will distort and swell with ecstatic internal vibrations.
The ominous presence of the Orb – the One, the vacuous, the reverberant, She-of-many-names – invokes the spirit of George Bataille and Kantian notions of the sublime to create an image of the Sacred and that which is greater than all that is human.
All of this begins with the ritual of a birth in an off-grid nuclear bunker in a forest on the border between Brandenburg and Saxony at the beginning of spring.
The performance will be followed by an open-deck DJ set curated by Sofá Loader, a live IDM set from Avtomaty [live] with video projections by Data_Lū, and a live gameboy electronic music set by Daimon Chip + 0r4. about the artist
Ani Samperi (US) is a Berlin-Based artist whose practice tests the boundaries between sound installation, sculpture, and performance art. This has evolved into increasingly larger and more confrontational works using resonating materials, light and shadow, feedback systems, and field recordings reimagined as voices. Concepts inspired by ecoacoustics and esoteric discourse accompany these works to address questions of human agency, intimacy, and the existential value of extreme sensory experience.
Paußnitz (DE) is an audible implement for the establishment of contact and interaction with the many worlds between and beyond what can be seen and sensed. Engaging in dialogue with called and present beings for the sake of consolidating a long existing bond and to lift the curtain between what is to be one.
