by Daria Redkina (UA)

8ight // for 8 audiovisual exhibitions

frei-raum.berlin is showing the exhibition series 8ight, which will feature sound art and audiovisual art installations, performances and artistic research. This series runs from April to December 2024, with eight sequential presentations, each characterised by the number of acoustic sources/speakers: from one in the first exhibition to eight in the last. The symbolic meaning of the number 8 for time, connection and renewal is reflected in this gradual increase. At the end of the 8 exhibitions, a printed art object, in a limited edition of 8, will be published on our label F with a summary of all the works.

// Daria Redkina presents ‘Air’Finite’ - a performative sound sculpture that transforms air into a tangible and dynamic medium through an ensemble of weather balloons, each equipped with reeds and played via a custom-built electro-

mechanical system.

This piece explores the finiteness of air—the very substance we breathe - and by making air both audible and visually graspable, Air’Finite may encourage us to reflect on the invisible forces that shape our world.

  about the artist

Daria Redkina (UA) is a Ukrainian sound artist based in Berlin.

Working on the intersection of sound design, sculpture and interactive media she explores electroacoustic sound and microtonal composing methods using deconstructed accordion and electronics as her instruments. She deconstructed the accordion into singular reed organs and continues to develop this custom built wind instrument , adapting it for various projects.

She has performed , recorded and released music as solo and in collaboration with other artists - as one half of electronic folk duet Cotenius X and founder/leading member of a music collective Augmented Aural.
